The Yamazaki – Story of the Distillery 2025
Located in Yamazaki, Osaka Prefecture—on the border of the ancient capital Kyoto—The Yamazaki Distillery is Japan’s oldest whisky distillery, set in an environment ideal for maturation, where pure streams gently flow.
Story of the Distillery is a new series launched in 2024. That year also marked a notable moment in Japanese whisky, as global recognition continued to rise and Suntory further elevated its positioning toward the premium segment.
Today, distilleries are expected to go beyond long aging alone—embracing greater precision in blending, ongoing investment in craftsmanship and facilities, and the articulation of a distinct brand narrative.
Unlike standard non-age-statement expressions, the limited-release Story of the Distillery series is crafted to express the philosophy of the brand through a more deliberate and layered composition.
- The oriental nuance of Mizunara oak
- The fruit-forward character of red wine casks
- The soft, rounded malt profile of Yamazaki
Together, these elements create a whisky that is vibrant and approachable for newcomers, while offering depth, structure, and a lingering finish that will resonate with connoisseurs. It is a compelling expression of the essence of Yamazaki—and a reflection of where Japanese whisky stands today.
Iwa-okoshi
A traditional confection from Osaka, Iwa-okoshi is known for its lively, satisfying texture—very much in the spirit of the city itself. Its name, derived from the word okosu (“to raise” or “to bring prosperity”), carries auspicious meaning.
Enjoy the roasted notes of puffed rice and the gentle hint of ginger on the finish, beautifully complemented by Yamazaki.
