DRC La Tâche 2015 | Power and Balance from a 6.06-Hectare Monopole
Power shaped by ripe fruit, firm tannins and a distinctive note of liquorice.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche 2015 is a Grand Cru Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most closely watched estates. The vineyard is a 6.062-hectare monopole in Vosne-Romanée. DRC’s own description associates La Tâche with strength and a note of liquorice, held in balance by an underlying sense of elegance.
The 2015 vintage brought a warm, dry growing season, producing ripe fruit and mature tannins while retaining freshness. DRC harvested La Tâche on 7 and 8 September. The result reflects both the generosity of the year and the structure of this distinctive vineyard.
A 6.062-Hectare Monopole in Vosne-Romanée
La Tâche is a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, owned entirely by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Its area is listed by the estate as 6.0620 hectares. The monopole designation means that the vineyard is under a single owner, allowing the wine to express the character of this site as interpreted by one domaine.
DRC describes La Tâche as a wine of elegance and rigour, with tannins that can be firm yet are restrained by a composed, almost courtly character. Its identity is not defined by fruit concentration alone, but by the relationship between power, structure and length.
The estate’s different Grand Cru vineyards each have their own expression. For another perspective on DRC’s vineyard character, see our article on Romanée-Conti 2017.
The 2015 Vintage: Ripeness Without Losing Balance

According to DRC’s official harvest report, 2015 began with a mild winter and a dry, warm spring. July was particularly hot, while a cooler and more moderate first half of August allowed the vines to resume an even ripening process. Dry conditions returned later in August, and the grapes reached harvest in excellent sanitary condition.
The estate noted that the berries were small and compact, with thick skins rich in anthocyanins and ripe tannins. Despite the high level of maturity, the fruit did not become overripe. DRC specifically highlighted the balance between acidity, tannins and relatively high alcohol as a defining feature of the vintage.
La Tâche was picked on 7–8 September at an approximate yield of 25 hectolitres per hectare. DRC’s official vineyard page lists 16,644 bottles harvested for the 2015 vintage.
Whole-Cluster Fermentation and the Structure of the Wine
In 2015, every red wine in DRC’s range except Corton was fermented with 100% whole clusters. La Tâche was therefore vinified without destemming. Whole-cluster fermentation can contribute tannin and aromatic complexity from the stems, but it depends on grapes reaching a high level of ripeness and phenolic maturity.
DRC reported that fermentations lasted between 21 and 23 days, depending on the wine. The small berries and unusually resistant skins, together with the high levels of polyphenols and sugar, made the fermentations long and powerful.
For La Tâche, the domaine identified strength and a note of liquorice as defining traits of the finished wine. In the 2015 vintage, the concentration of ripe fruit is supported by the structure of whole-cluster vinification and the vineyard’s own character.
The Aromatic and Textural Profile of La Tâche 2015
Published tasting assessments describe dark berries and plum alongside spice, liquorice and floral notes. The palate is generous and layered, with fine-grained yet firm tannins. Rather than relying on richness alone, the wine combines depth of fruit with a persistent structural line.
Recent tasting comments from 2025 continue to find plum, mulberry, violet, liquorice and spice, while noting that the wine remains youthful. It is beginning to reveal some of its complexity, but still has considerable room to evolve in bottle.
