Mars Komagatake 30-Year-Old – A Whisky Steeped in Time and Tradition
Founded in 1985, Mars Komagatake Distillery began its whisky-making journey at the foot of Mt. Komagatake, one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains, nestled in the Central Alps. Just a year after its establishment, in 1986, malt whisky was distilled and left to mature in this serene alpine environment. After 30 years of aging, these remarkable whiskies have finally been bottled, marking a significant milestone in the distillery’s history.
We are pleased to announce the arrival of two expressions of Komagatake 30-Year-Old, the flagship release of Mars Komagatake Distillery:
- Single Malt Komagatake 1986 AGED 30 YEARS American White Oak Natural Cask Strength
- Single Malt Komagatake 1986 AGED 30 YEARS Sherry Cask
The American White Oak Cask Strength is a vatting of four casks distilled in 1986 and aged in American white oak barrels, imparting deep complexity and a rich, well-rounded profile. Meanwhile, the Sherry Cask expression is composed of two carefully selected casks aged in sherry barrels, offering a decadent, refined character.
Both whiskies, deeply intertwined with the history of Mars Komagatake Distillery, present a captivating aromatic depth, a soft, rounded mouthfeel, and an elegantly matured richness that reflects the passage of time. The lingering dense, sweet, and velvety finish is a true testament to its 30-year heritage.
Adding to their allure, the labels feature artwork by Yasunari Ikenaga, a distinguished Japanese painter known for his distinctive style. His paintings, meticulously created using mineral pigments on hand-dyed linen, exude a depth and elegance that perfectly mirrors the sophistication of the whisky within.
