Tokyo Whisky, a limited production by Nagahama Distillery
Nestled on the shores of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, Nagahama Distillery holds the distinction of being Japan’s smallest whisky distillery. Established in 2016, this young yet ambitious distillery has swiftly gained international recognition, guided by the vision of crafting whisky that will be cherished even a century from now.
In collaboration with Takao Mori, one of Japan’s most celebrated bartenders, Nagahama Distillery has created this exceptional whisky bearing the name of the nation’s capital—Tokyo. Mori, known for his legendary martini, has mentored over 6,000 bartenders through his renowned MORI BAR, shaping Japan’s cocktail scene.
This exquisite blend features Nagahama’s single malt, non-peated sherry cask-aged whisky and Mizunara oak-aged whisky, alongside rare, carefully selected malt whiskies sourced from abroad—including a 30-year-old malt distilled in 1990 and another from 1996. In total, seven distinct malt components contribute to its intricate profile.
With a radiant amber hue, this whisky greets the palate with remarkable smoothness. Floral aromas lead into a rich depth reminiscent of rum-soaked raisins, complemented by elegant oak nuances and a lingering, sophisticated oriental finish.
The calligraphy gracing the label, boldly inscribed with “Tokyo,” is the work of Soumei Isono, the ninth-generation master of the Sekishu Isa School of Tea Ceremony, a tradition that has flourished over 300 years and famous for serving the fifth Tokugawa shogun, Tsunayoshi.
Each bottle is accompanied by an exquisite furoshiki wrapping cloth, crafted by Eirakuya, Japan’s oldest textile merchant, founded in 1615 during the early Edo period—making it a refined and culturally significant gift.
Only six bottles available.
A tasting menu featuring this rare whisky is available in-store from 19th March.
