Suntory Single Malt Whisky Hakushu 25 Year Old is crafted from carefully selected Hakushu malt whiskies aged for more than a quarter of a century, then brought together and further matured to achieve depth and harmony.

Ripe fruit, a creamy texture and refined smoke unfold over the fresh, green character associated with Hakushu. It is a long-aged expression that retains the distillery’s signature clarity while adding remarkable richness and complexity.

Hakushu: a single malt shaped by the forest

Hakushu Distillery is located in Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture, at the foot of Japan’s Southern Alps.

Surrounded by forest and blessed with exceptionally clear mountain water, the distillery produces a wide range of malt whisky styles.

Hakushu is widely associated with fresh aromatics, a light and lively structure, and a subtle smoky character. In Hakushu 25 Year Old, those qualities are layered with the concentration and complexity that come from extended maturation.

Hakushu 25 Year Old is built from precious Hakushu malt whiskies matured for more than 25 years.

Different mature components are selected for their individual character, including creamy and woody malts, smoky peated whisky and richly fruity cask-matured components. They are then married and given further time to settle into a unified profile.

The appeal lies not simply in age, but in the selection and integration of whiskies that have developed in different directions over decades while still retaining the identity of Hakushu.

The colour is a deep amber with reddish tones.

On the nose, ripe persimmon, mango, jam and chocolate create a rich and mature aromatic profile.

The palate brings concentrated fruit sweetness and a creamy texture, balanced by a gentle touch of acidity.

The finish is long and layered, with smoke and fruity sweetness lingering together.

Rather than losing Hakushu’s freshness through age, the whisky transforms it into something deeper: a combination of clarity, mature fruit and restrained smokiness.

An internationally recognised expression of long-aged Hakushu

Hakushu 25 Year Old has received repeated recognition at major international spirits competitions.

It has earned top honours at the International Spirits Challenge, including Trophy awards, and has also been named World’s Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards.

These awards reflect the long-term craftsmanship behind Hakushu: distillation, cask management, maturation and blending working together over decades.

What does “Hakushu 25 New Bottle” mean?

In the secondary and retail market, different presentations of Hakushu 25 Year Old are sometimes informally distinguished as the “old bottle” and the “new bottle”, based on changes to the label, cap, security features and packaging.

The bottle introduced here is the current presentation often referred to in the market as the “new bottle”.

“Hakushu 25 New Bottle” is not an official Suntory product name. The official name remains Suntory Single Malt Whisky Hakushu 25 Year Old.
